Ralf Schumacher: Good people rarely win titles
Ralf Schumacher says that the McLaren team, although they talk about treating their two drivers equally, in fact, behind closed doors they have already decided to bet on Oscar Piastri, the leader in the individual championship standings.
Lando Norris was responsible for the ridiculous collision with his team-mate at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix, and although he took responsibility for himself, explaining the mistake by misjudging the interval between cars, this incident probably became a kind of signal to the team leadership.
"I think it has already been decided within the team that Piastri is the person who should be given the main focus in terms of fighting for the championship title," the former Formula 1 racer said on Sky Deutschland. – Lando shows too many weaknesses and makes too many mistakes, including his senseless clash with Oscar in Canada.
He apologized, and it shows that he is a very good person. But it's all useless, because good people rarely win titles."
Ralf is not alone in assessing Lando's situation this year – like many, he believes that the British rider is inferior to his partner in psychological preparation: "His nerves are starting to give out, and now he is at a low point. Although I must admit that he is still faster than his partner.
He failed to show this in qualifying, but during the race he overtook his teammate, and he was just better at it than Oscar. He still has speed, and first of all it shows up in the race. When he has to work aggressively with the rubber, Norris feels better how to act. In the days of Alain Prost, he would also have been called a "professor." So Lando's problems are only related to his head."
After crashing on the 67th lap of the race in Montreal, Norris lost a lot of points, and his gap from his team-mate in the individual standings increased to 22 points. However, this is less than the Grand Prix winner gets, and there are still 14 stages before the end of the championship, and much more can change.
