Gordon Murray was fighting cancer

One of the most successful designers of Formula 1 cars, Gordon Murray, said that in 2024 he was diagnosed with cancer.

In the 70s, Murray was the technical director of Brabham, where he developed the BT46B "fan machine". In his cars, Nelson Piquet became champion in 1981 and 1983, then Ron Dennis lured him away and the South African engineer built the legendary McLaren MP4/4, on which Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost won 15 of the 16 races of the season in 1988.

Later, he designed the famous McLaren F1 sports car, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, and founded the Gordon Murray Automotive company, with which he presented the IGM compact sports coupe project.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Murray said that in 2024 he was diagnosed with early-stage esophageal adenocarcinoma, underwent chemotherapy, and had the tumor removed in July.
