Kvyat and Grosjean showed their best result at IMSA
Yesterday, a 6-hour race of the American IMSA series took place on the classic track in Watkins Glen, New York, and it was indeed an endurance race, without any exaggeration.
The weather has been hot there in recent days, and daytime temperatures exceed 30 degrees, so the local population is being warned about the risks associated with with extreme heat. It was in such conditions that the participants of the "6 Hours of Glen", as this stage of IMSA is officially called, had to race.
But this did not prevent Roman Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat, our old friends, from taking 7th place - so far this is the best result of the crew of the Lamborghini factory team in the American series.
When Roman got out of the cockpit, completing his I took a shift and gave up my place at the wheel to Daniel, it was obvious that he was just exhausted.
"It was really a race for survival! – commented Grosjean. – And all because of the heat. Definitely, in such conditions, it is very difficult in the cockpit of the Lamborghini – it was terribly hot there. We don't have a drinking water supply system, an air conditioner, or just a fan for the rider – we just use cooling vests.
That's why the 2:45 a.m. shift seemed very, very long to me. But today we fought for a good result – the team had excellent tactics. In the early stages of the slick race, we generally drove very fast, we were able to overtake many rivals, but when it started to rain, for some reason things got worse,
but then we chose the right moment to return to the slicks, and we acted clearly when the safety car pulled onto the track..."
This year, the Lamborghini Squadra Corse is competing only in the IMSA series, and so far the Italian team is not doing well, after six stages its crew is in a distant 22nd place, but the 7th result in Watkins Glen is already a sign of progress.
And yesterday's race was won by Tom Blomqvist and Colin Brown, who ride the Meyer Shank Racing team's Acura sports prototype, and this is their first victory of the season.
