Carlos Sainz: I understand my father, but I'm disappointed with his decision.

The day before, Carlos Sainz Sr. issued a statement in which he refused to run for president of the FIA. In Spielberg, Williams driver Carlos Sainz commented on his father's decision.

Carlos Sainz: "As his son, I am not disappointed with the decision, but as a motorsport fan, I am disappointed. I think many people from the racing world would be happy to see my father in this position, and what results he could achieve.

But as a son, my father and I discussed all the things he would have to do just to be able to run for office, and I understand why he made such a decision."

Asked if his father's participation in future FIA presidential elections was possible, Carlos said: "Never say never. I think, considering all the circumstances, the ideal moment for the nomination was now. I do not know if the situation will be so suitable in four years or eight years. Never say never, but right now he's not interested in this project anymore."
