Lance Stroll responds to his recent F1 critics.

"Opinions in Formula 1 are often short-sighted."

Lance Stroll has responded to the recent negative speculation regarding his performance and future in Formula 1. With George Russell, Yuki Tsunoda, and even Max Verstappen being associated with Aston Martin for 2026, some suggest that his father, team owner Lawrence Stroll, should consider replacing his 26-year-old son. Many are highlighting Stroll’s persistent gap in performance compared to his teammate Fernando Alonso, as well as his notably poor attitude with the media and public.

"Would I retain him for 2026 if I were running Aston Martin?" former F1 driver Timo Glock stated to Sky Deutschland. "No. Aston Martin requires a different strategy if it seeks to thrive."

The management at the Silverstone-based team, including Adrian Newey, have defended Stroll, asserting that he is definitely under contract for 2026. When asked about opinions like Glock’s, Stroll remarked in Austria: "Opinions are often short-sighted in Formula 1. If you have two good races, you’re seen as the best driver in the world. If you have two bad races, people argue you shouldn’t be racing anymore and label you as inadequate. I think that’s how it’s always been and how it will continue to be," the Canadian added.

When Stroll missed the Spanish Grand Prix for wrist surgery, there were rumors—only partially denied by Aston Martin—that he had reacted angrily after qualifying. His critics also took aim at his notably irritable demeanor during the FIA press conference at his home race in Montreal recently.

"When you’re having a bad day, it’s not enjoyable," Stroll acknowledged. "And you feel good when things are going well. It’s that straightforward."
