Lando Norris: That was a good lap, for sure!

Lando Norris won the qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring, marking the McLaren driver's third pole of the season and the 12th of his career. Oscar Piastri was unlucky; yellow flags appeared on track, forcing the Australian to abandon his second run. He will start the Austrian Grand Prix from third position.

Lando Norris (1st): "That was a good lap, for sure! The first attempt in the final session was also pretty good, but I knew there were a few places around the lap where, if I did things right, I could gain quite a bit of time, and in the end, I managed it. I executed as planned, and when I plan something and everything goes as it should, the result usually makes me really happy. So I'm pleased—the day is going well, and the whole weekend so far has gone pretty well, so hopefully we can maintain this level. The season is long, and right now I want to enjoy the moment, especially since I had some difficulties in previous qualifying sessions. But now I'm happy with myself because I managed to put in a good lap and show this result. All this is inspiring, because I want to prove a lot to myself—hopefully, today is the start of that."

Oscar Piastri (3rd): "The problem is that I couldn’t start my decisive run, and that’s a fact. In the final corner, Pierre Gasly spun, so I couldn’t even begin my second lap. But Lando has been very quick since the start of the weekend, and it would have been difficult to beat him, but I think the car’s pace this weekend definitely allowed us to fight for a spot on the front row. You always worry when you didn’t even have the chance, but starting from third you can still have a good race. Sometimes the day just doesn’t go your way. But overall, we’re showing very strong pace this weekend. Ferrari also look pretty good, which was a bit of a surprise, but we’ll still have opportunities tomorrow. I can assure you, finishing third is not my plan."
