Marko to evaluate Hadjar's promotion during the summer break.
"First, we will calmly complete the mid-season."
Dr. Helmut Marko has not dismissed the possibility of promoting Isack Hadjar in 2026. The veteran Red Bull F1 advisor has been praising the 20-year-old French rookie throughout the current season. "He hasn’t made any major mistakes," the 82-year-old mentioned to L’Equipe, justifying Hadjar’s early spin during his debut's formation lap in Melbourne. "Now that the pressure has eased, he’s also shown a great sense of humor," Marko added. "He’s consistently qualifying in Q3, but what impresses me most is how quickly he adapts. I’m not sure how familiar he was with the circuits before joining, yet after just three laps, he’s already competitive."
This ability to adapt could be crucial for Hadjar if he is chosen to replace Yuki Tsunoda next year, as Red Bull Racing seeks a strong teammate for Max Verstappen. "First, we’ll finish the mid-season with a clear head," Marko stated, "and after the summer break, we’ll assess the situation." He also mentioned that they have long-term contract options with Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, as reported to Kleine Zeitung.
Continuing with his admiration for Hadjar, Marko noted, "He’s also become more composed on the radio," indicating he no longer engages in heated exchanges. "He’s evolving, and that’s taken many by surprise, including myself," the composed 82-year-old confessed.
Marko believes Hadjar possesses qualities indicative of future greatness. "Isack is a truly exceptional driver," he asserted. "When I first saw him, I thought he reminded me of a new (Alain) Prost. He is capable of taking a step back to absorb all the information around him, and his methodical thinking before speaking is impressive. He also has a resilient character."
