"The collaboration has the potential to revitalize the German market."

A significant shift in Formula 1 broadcasting could potentially benefit the currently stagnant German market. After the peak popularity during the era of Michael Schumacher, which featured several local drivers and two grands prix hosting, interest in the sport has drastically declined in Germany. A contributing factor to this decline in recent years has been the broadcasting changes, as Formula 1 has vanished from free-to-air television. RTL, the traditional free-to-air broadcaster for F1 in Germany, has managed to restore some live grand prix coverage to viewers through an agreement with Sky Deutschland, which includes 7 race weekends in 2025. Additionally, Bild newspaper has reported RTL plans to fully acquire Sky Deutschland. "Of course, we still require the approval from the federal cartel office," stated F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, "but this is promising news for our sport. The collaboration can help enhance the German market, which is something we all desire." Hans Mahr, a prominent figure at RTL, shares this enthusiasm. "The promotional capacity of RTL is clear and will drive another surge in Formula 1." Reports indicate that the acquisition of Sky Deutschland by RTL is set at 150 million euros, with an additional almost 400 million if RTL's share price reaches 70 euros.
