Montoya: Under pressure, anyone can break.
Lando Norris won the race in Austria a week ago in a very confident manner, whereas his teammate at least in one instance showed excessive impulsiveness, for which he later had to apologize to the team, which warned the Australian to act more cautiously in the future. Oscar Piastri is often praised for his impressive psychological preparation, but Juan-Pablo Montoya, a former Formula 1 driver who also raced for McLaren, believes that under intense pressure, anyone can break. "The question is whether Oscar is truly as solid as a rock, or if he's just a very calm guy who is excellent at pretending nothing special is happening and hiding what's on his mind?" Montoya remarks. "Anyone can break; everyone experiences worries; everyone has a tough time. I think if Lando starts to frequently get ahead of his teammate, we'll see a different side of Oscar. In such situations, when you're facing difficulties, it’s impossible to remain completely calm. That’s not so difficult now. In the past two years, he was in the position of a beginner who didn't aim for much, and when a driver is just learning, such challenges are quite understandable. But now, when you're fighting for the title and your teammate is catching up and will do so every weekend, then we will see whether Piastri can stay composed. When passions reach their peak, we will see how McLaren drivers handle it, because we already know Lando can crack under pressure. But he still has a lot of room to bounce back. And if he wins two races in a row, probably we'll see a different side of Oscar. I think Lando will win at Silverstone. In my opinion, this will be another McLaren 1-2 victory. Although in cooler conditions, Mercedes will gain strength, and Red Bull Racing and Ferrari should also perform well if the asphalt temperature drops. However, we definitely know that McLaren will be among the leaders, but I also believe Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes will be roughly on the same level, so it’s impossible to predict who will end up in which positions. After Lando Norris’s victory at the Austrian stage of the season, he managed to reduce the gap to his teammate to 15 points.
