Cadillac acknowledges that Schumacher is 'under consideration' for 2026.

"He's a really nice person - I have a lot of affection for him."

Mick Schumacher could potentially rejoin the Formula 1 grid next year. Since the son of F1 icon Michael Schumacher lost his seat at Haas at the end of 2022, he has never dismissed the idea of a comeback. However, Schumacher’s two-year role as Mercedes’ reserve driver ended late last year, and the 26-year-old has since been concentrating fully on the WEC with Alpine.

Recently, the German returned to the F1 paddock, attending both the Austrian GP last weekend and the British GP at Silverstone. At Silverstone, he was accompanied by his new and well-known advisor, Dirk Muller, and Cadillac executives Dan Towriss and team principal Graeme Lowdon were also present.

Several other drivers, including Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, are strongly linked with the new Formula 1 team set to debut in 2026. Lowdon acknowledged to Sky Deutschland that part of his responsibilities this weekend includes discussions with drivers.

"We’re very busy," he mentioned. "It’s not often that a new Formula 1 team is added to the grid. Everything is new. The biggest challenge is constructing a team. We’re about two-thirds through fulfilling our staffing requirements for Melbourne, and the car is progressing on schedule."

Lowdon attempted to deflect the questions about drivers. "Hopefully, the fans will understand our focus on the car for now—because without a car, there are no drivers," he stated. "However, the situation looks quite good for us at the moment. Numerous talented drivers are available, and I believe we’ll see some movement in the driver market soon."

While Towriss, elsewhere in the paddock, confirmed that Bottas is a candidate for 2026, Lowdon was specifically asked about Schumacher. "Mick is wonderful," he remarked. "He’s a really nice person - I have a lot of affection for him. I’ve gotten to know him better now. He’s still young, but he already has Formula 1 experience. Sure, it has been a while, but he has kept himself updated. He’s been involved in some tests and has shown great interest in our project. We genuinely appreciate that."

When asked for his opinion on the situation, Schumacher revealed he is having "a few conversations" this weekend. "There’s no news yet concerning Formula 1, but that is still the main objective," the German noted. "We’re working towards that."

Schumacher attended Cadillac’s team launch event in Miami two months prior. "He’s familiar with the team," Lowdon commented. "He understands our position. There are only positive things to say about Mick. He’s clearly one of the drivers on our list. I should mention that the list is quite extensive," he added with a smile.
