Bernie Ecclestone: Why was Horner dismissed in a single day?
Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was shocked by Christian Horner's dismissal from Red Bull Racing. According to Bernie, he spoke with Christian by phone on Monday, and during the conversation there was no mention of the upcoming departure.
Bernie Ecclestone: "I think something very serious happened. I talked to him on Monday, and he knew nothing. Or he might have known, but he didn't tell me.
We had an ordinary conversation. We talked about Max Verstappen, but that’s obviously not the reason, otherwise he would have told me.
All I know is that it was announced to the whole world that Christian was fired, and the decision came into effect. I don’t understand this 'came into effect.' Why was he fired in one day? As if he murdered someone.
You see, if you are going to fire someone, you should first talk to that person, tell him about the decision to end cooperation, or something like that. But for the statement: 'You are fired, effective immediately,' he must have done something completely radical.
Suppose Red Bull is unhappy with the results. I can understand that, but that’s one thing. But firing immediately — that's a completely different story."
