Sebastian Vettel has spoken again about participating in the FIA WEC.
Last year, four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel tested the Porsche 963 Hypercar from the factory team Porsche Penske Motorsport, competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). It was supposed to be just the first step in a full testing program, after which the German driver would sign a contract to participate in endurance races. However, last year it was limited to a few test sessions, and the topic did not develop further. Now, Sebastian has spoken again about a possible debut in endurance racing in the foreseeable future. Sebastian Vettel: "I don't want to rule out the possibility that something could come of this. I had discussions on this topic, but nothing has materialized so far. Honestly, I wasn't particularly interested in endurance racing before, but today I see it differently. I really like the team structure, working with teammates on the car, and the ability to compromise." Sebastian added that the FIA WEC championship appeals to him, partly because of its not overly tight schedule: "In Formula 1, you can't really say that you'll only participate in half the races. WEC with its eight races per season is a great option. The question is always how much effort you're willing to invest in a particular project. My approach has always been consistent: if I take on something, I do it thoroughly. Just driving for fun isn't for me." When asked what needs to happen for him to join the FIA WEC, Sebastian said: "The stars need to align — I need the right partners, the right approach." Vettel also added that he has completely put the idea of returning to Formula 1 behind him: "For me, Formula 1 is over. At some point, it's time to make room for others. This is especially evident with new drivers. I think it's good that a whole group of drivers has changed. For me, it's not a vote against veterans but a vote for the young. Before, I didn’t care who among the experienced drivers was on the grid. The main thing for me was that I was participating."
