Formula E: Buemi is set to extend his contract with Envision
Sebastien Buemi can certainly be considered a veteran of motorsport, having competed in 55 races for Toro Rosso in Formula 1, won four WEC championships, and achieved 14 victories in Formula E, where he also became champion in 2016 with the factory Renault team.
The 36-year-old Swiss driver continues to race in endurance events and the electric series, although recent rumors suggest he intends to part ways with Formula E. However, Sebastien hinted that contract extension negotiations with his current team, Envision, have already taken place for another season.
"Yes, I would say I am staying in Formula E," Buemi replied when asked about his plans for 2026. "Of course, it's good that the calendars of WEC and Formula E do not overlap, because if there were schedule conflicts, finding a solution would be very difficult."
But it is precisely the scheduling conflicts between the two series that hinder signing a multi-year contract: "We usually receive the calendars for the next year quite late, typically in May or June. You can sign a multi-year contract, but then it should include special provisions allowing you to be released from commitments. We'll see, though.
Regarding these two championships, I understand the teams: nobody wants to deal with a driver who plans to participate in only some of the races. It can be said that that’s why only one-year contracts are always signed."
If Buemi does indeed stay with Envision, it will be his 12th season in Formula E, and he remains in good form. This year, Sebastien won a race in Monaco and finished on the podium in Indonesia.
