Norris: I was quite confident in my abilities.
Lando Norris won the Spa qualifying session, marking his 13th career pole position for McLaren and his fourth this season.
Lando Norris (1st): "I managed to do a pretty decent lap, so I’m pleased. Yesterday (after practice and qualifying), everyone was quite worried, but I didn't fall too far behind, and that was mainly due to some difficulties we encountered. So, going into today, I was pretty confident, and it’s great that I was able to secure the top spot again.
Yesterday, I lost a few tenths just because I couldn't take advantage of the slipstream, so there was no reason to worry. I had the feeling that everything was going well, although people tend to exaggerate things.
This weekend, the car is simply flying on the track, and Oscar is also doing a great job, pushing each other really hard. It’s not easy because you immediately see your strengths and weaknesses. We learn from each other quickly, which is good, but at the same time, there’s an interesting rivalry developing between us.
Honestly, I’d prefer tomorrow’s race to be dry, as it would be better even for the fans. But I think for about the last ten years, Spa races have been held in rain, so it would be great if the weather turns out better this time. However, I have nothing against rain, or maybe some changeable weather—it's normal for the Belgian track. I’m looking forward to an exciting race!"
Oscar Piastri (2nd): "I’m a little disappointed, because in the second attempt in the final session, the lap was going quite well, but I simply made a small mistake entering Turn 14 and lost quite a bit of time. Although I felt we had a great car again, the results are very close.
Of course, I start from a good position, but the car could have delivered more, and such results are always frustrating. At the same time, my teammate and I make a good duo, and each weekend we learn a lot from each other. Although when we’re trying to overtake each other, both of us find it challenging.
I thought things were going fine today, but at the crucial moment, I didn’t handle things as well as I should have, which is regrettable. I don’t know what the weather will be like on Sunday—we’ll see. But we’ll do our best to have a good race tomorrow."
