Rain interrupted the Formula 3 race at Spa.
The Formula 3 race on Sunday was canceled due to heavy rain and the expiration of available time after two incomplete laps behind the safety car.
Sunday morning greeted the young championship participants with pouring rain, so for safety reasons, the formation lap started behind the safety car. During the very first lap, James Hedley, Tim Tramnitz, and Brando Badoer went off track. Hedley and Tramnitz continued, but Badoer retired.
In some parts of the circuit, full-fledged rivers flowed, so the race director displayed red flags, and the peloton, following the safety car, returned to the pit lane.
The pause lasted half an hour. During this time, the rain almost stopped, and marshals used dryers and tractors to help drain water from the asphalt.
The drivers returned to the track behind the safety car, but on the very first lap, Tasanapol Inthrafuasak lost control of his car in the second sector and went off into the grass. He attempted to get back on track but ended up hanging the car’s underside on the curb and retired.
Bernd Milder led the peloton for two laps, after which red flags were again displayed, and everyone returned to the pit lane. Simultaneously, a 15-minute countdown to the finish was initiated.
When a little over ten minutes remained until the end of the countdown, the race director announced that the race would not be restarted. In fact, the drivers had completed less than two laps behind the safety car, so they were awarded no more than half points.
The next Formula 3 round will take place from August 1 to 3 in Hungary at the Hungaroring circuit.
