      "It’s a thoroughly prepared file."

Madrid’s upcoming Formula 1 street race is facing a legal obstacle, as a local court has accepted an appeal challenging the city’s approval for the new "Madring" circuit at IFEMA. The 22nd Administrative Court of Madrid has taken on the case brought forward by the Plataforma Ecologista Madrilena, represented by Liberum Natura, which is contesting the construction license issued by the City Council. The group claims that the approval process was "complex, fragmented, and opaque," and criticizes the reliance on provisional permits without a thorough environmental assessment.

Environmental groups such as ARBA, GRAMA, and Jarama Vivo have denounced the 189 million euro project, citing a "serious lack of urban and environmental rigor,” particularly considering the temporary nature of the track, which is set to be removed after ten years. They also oppose the use of a temporary activity license, "similar to those issued for setting up tents during neighborhood festivals."

In reaction, acting mayor Inma Sanz minimized the significance of the court's decision, asserting that the project is well-founded. "It’s a thoroughly prepared file," she stated during a speech in Moratalaz, "endorsed by the technical services of Madrid City Council, which includes up to 131 reports in this Special Plan." Europa Press also reported her saying, "It has been executed excellently, not only by the technical services of the City Council but also by other agencies, both within the General State Administration and the Community, which support the project's progression."
