Doornbos commends Piastri's mindset as the distance to Norris increases.
"I admire how Oscar deals with setbacks."
Oscar Piastri’s ability to bounce back from challenges has drawn praise from former F1 driver and Dutch commentator Robert Doornbos, as the McLaren driver continues to extend his lead over teammate Lando Norris in the championship standings. Speaking on De Stamtafel for Ziggo Sport, Doornbos pointed out Piastri’s response to the contentious time penalty at Silverstone—a situation that resulted in a victory for Norris, leaving the Australian frustrated. "I admire how Oscar deals with setbacks," Doornbos remarked. "I find that truly impressive." He even mentioned that he reached out to Piastri’s manager, Mark Webber, to convey his admiration. "Silverstone was undeniably a tough moment for him. He was in a dominant position and lost the win due to the FIA's time penalty." "However, he arrived at the circuit on Thursday and immediately expressed a positive outlook about the race. Lando was not interested in discussing momentum and viewed it as just another weekend. The difference in mentality is quite evident."
