Ferrari puts an end to rumors by securing a long-term agreement with Vasseur.
Ferrari has announced a multi-year contract extension for team principal Fred Vasseur, putting an end to weeks of speculation regarding his future as the team prepares for an important rule change in 2026. The announcement was made in Budapest on Thursday, just before the Hungarian GP, with Ferrari’s leadership commending the Frenchman's vision, stability, and cultural influence since his arrival in early 2023.
"We want to acknowledge what has been achieved and commit to what still lies ahead," stated CEO Benedetto Vigna. "This demonstrates our faith in Fred’s leadership - a trust based on shared goals, mutual expectations, and defined responsibilities."
Vasseur remarked, "This renewal is not merely a confirmation - it’s a challenge. We understand what is required, and we are all fully dedicated to advancing together."
Vasseur continues to have strong support from both current drivers.
"I’m truly, genuinely happy," expressed Charles Leclerc. "There were quite a few rumors in the past month. Fred possesses an incredible vision and maintains clarity regardless of the surrounding noise. That’s what Ferrari needs."
Lewis Hamilton added, "Fred informed me yesterday. It was the right decision - he is the ideal person to lead this team to success."
Carlos Sainz, who will be replaced by Hamilton in 2025, also welcomed the news: "I wasn’t even aware a renewal was necessary. From an outside perspective, it seems more like a move to silence rumors. I’m pleased for Fred."
Leclerc recently stood on the podium at Spa thanks to the team’s new rear suspension. However, looking ahead to Hungary, the Monegasque conceded, "It’s by far the most challenging track of the season for me. I’m eager to try to prove that wrong."
He also addressed the internal development process after Hamilton revealed that he had been submitting technical documents to Maranello. "I have my own method, which differs from Lewis's, but that doesn’t mean I’m sidelined. I’m certainly involved."
Hamilton, for his part, noted that working with Vasseur reminded him of Toto Wolff’s trust-based style. "I believe Fred is quite similar in that respect," he said. "I’m still in the process of understanding how Fred prefers to work, but I have complete trust in him."
