Apple's F1 movie reaches $509 million as speculation about new deals intensifies.

"I was convinced that the film would do exceptionally well in the US."

Apple's Formula 1 feature film has officially become the most successful theatrical release for the tech company, sparking increasing speculation that Apple may soon become the US broadcast partner for the sport.

According to Formule 1 (Netherlands), ‘F1: The Movie’ has now exceeded $509 million in global box office income, surpassing previous Apple-funded films such as Napoleon ($221 million), Killers of the Flower Moon ($158 million), and Argylle ($96 million).

The film, featuring Brad Pitt and produced in collaboration with Formula 1 using genuine Grand Prix events for its footage, was released in over 80 countries and crossed the $400 million threshold by mid-July. It has also outperformed classic Hollywood films like Superman ($502 million) and ranks among the top global hits of the summer.

Streaming rights are anticipated to transition to Apple TV later this year, but all eyes are on Apple’s larger aspirations within Formula 1.

Earlier this month, various reports indicated that Apple is close to securing a nine-figure deal to take over as the US rights holder for F1 starting in 2026. This interest aligns with Apple’s growing media presence, which includes significant investments in sports like Major League Soccer and MLB.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his enthusiasm over the film's success in remarks to Corriere della Sera, stating, "I was convinced the film would do exceptionally well in the US. However, I was astonished by the box office performance in Europe. Apple has been innovative and could become a key partner for future projects. Nevertheless, I don't want to get ahead of myself."
