George Russell: The pole was quite attainable
Half a tenth was missing to give the fourth-placed George Russell the pole in Hungary – the qualifying results were so close…
George Russell (4th): "It's always frustrating when you're so close to pole but can't quite get it. Nevertheless, before the weekend started, I would have agreed to a deficit of just 0.05 seconds in qualifying.
The pole was very achievable. I made a mistake that cost me a tenth; without it, I would have started higher. My second quick lap in the final also wasn't perfect – today, we had a chance to do better.
Today, we saw how much weather conditions and temperature can influence performance. Most likely, this will also be relevant in tomorrow’s race. It's good to see that we made a step forward after the changes we implemented here. Tomorrow, there’s a chance to compete for the podium."
Kimi Anttonelli (15th): "This weekend, I feel much more confident in myself and the car. The first part of qualifying went smoothly, but unfortunately, I was eliminated in the second.
As I exited the last turn to begin my final quick lap, I felt that the grip of the rear tires was worse than before. During the lap, the situation worsened. Probably, the tire temperature was too high.
We had the speed to reach the final and fight for pole. We need to analyze the data and figure out how to improve next time."
