Mercedes is expected to announce its 2026 lineup as Kimi makes a comeback.
"There's no need for concern - I won't be getting behind the wheel."
Toto Wolff has provided the clearest indication yet that Mercedes will retain George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for 2026, following a period of speculation regarding the team's future path. This announcement comes shortly after Christian Horner from Red Bull was officially dismissed, effectively ending any remaining possibilities of Max Verstappen making a surprising move to Mercedes.
Antonelli, who is only 18, has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks and showed visible emotion during a challenging weekend at Spa. However, during the Hungarian GP, the team reverted to a previous suspension setup, and the rookie quickly began to regain his form and confidence.
"It was a very intense start to the season, and at times I found it difficult to manage my energy," Antonelli acknowledged. "With the new suspension, I really struggled with the feel of the car, and mentally, I even began to doubt myself. I'm pleased, though, that with the old suspension, the feeling is coming back; I view it as a fresh starting point, especially looking ahead to the new phase after the summer break."
According to strong rumors in the paddock, team principal and co-owner Wolff is expected to finalize the team's driver lineup for 2026 during the summer break - and he almost confirmed this after the race in Hungary.
"Everything is fine," Wolff told Sky Deutschland. "There's no need to worry - I won't be getting in the car," he joked. "We'll continue in this manner."
