Next year at the Australian Grand Prix there will be, for the first time, a grandstand named after Oscar Piastri — the McLaren driver announced this in a video message to fans.
The "Piastri Grandstand" will be located directly opposite the pit lane — it will be added to the existing "Fangio Grandstand". Fans who choose to sit there will have a great view of the start-finish straight and the McLaren garages.
"I was really thrilled to hear the news that next year I'll have my own grandstand at the Australian Grand Prix," Oscar shared. "I can hardly believe it — I never thought something like this would be possible, but I feel enormous support, and I can't wait to see it all come together in March next year.
Seeing all the fans in my namesake grandstand opposite the McLaren garage will be an amazing experience! I'm looking forward to that energy and atmosphere.
I enjoy racing in my hometown, but I still remember as a child just listening to the roar of the racing cars around the track while walking nearby, and never dreaming I would one day be driving one of them. So, my namesake grandstand in Albert Park — that's really cool!"
Travis Auld, CEO of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, stressed that the Piastri grandstand is recognition of the McLaren driver's rapid progress, who now leads the drivers' championship.
"Oscar has achieved incredible success at the early stages of his career, starting in karting, then moving through F3 and F2, and now racing in Formula 1," he said. "Having a grandstand in his home Grand Prix is a fitting way to acknowledge his meteoric rise."
Mark Webber, a former Formula 1 driver who now manages the career of 24-year-old Piastri, believes his protégé fully deserves the honour: "This is great news for both the Australian Grand Prix and Oscar. It reflects the results he's achieved at such an early stage of his career — he has already stood on the podium and won races more than once.
Undoubtedly, he feels very comfortable performing at the highest level and represents Australia in Formula 1 with distinction."
The 2026 World Championship will begin with the Australian Grand Prix, scheduled for 5–8 March, and ticket sales for the race in Albert Park will start on 10 September.
