The FIA will, for the first time, combine real and virtual races.

The FIA has decided to combine real racing with virtual racing, and the first such experiment will take place next month during the Swedish round of the Karting World Championship.

The event is being organised by Svenska Bilsportförbundet, the Swedish national motorsport federation, and it will be an attempt to build bridges between the world of real racing and Esports. Of course, the next round of the Karting World Championship will be the main event of the weekend, and the simulator competitions are included in the program as support races.

Since 2023 these competitions have been officially recognized as a motorsport discipline, included in the FIA International Sporting Code and, under the federation’s aegis, have been successfully held at the international level.

Vincent Caro, FIA Director of Entry-Level Circuit Racing: “Bringing together karting competitions and Esports as part of the 2025 World Championship highlights the federation’s ambition to expand the range of opportunities that allow people to get involved in motorsport.

All the equipment that the Swedish federation will prepare for competition participants will be operational throughout the weekend, so fans and spectators who are into virtual racing will be able to try it out for themselves, free of charge.

In addition, this approach will make attending events held under the FIA’s aegis even more attractive to the public…”
