Caterham may return to Formula 1

A young investor from Kuwait hopes to bring the Caterham team back to Formula 1 as early as the 2027 season — he has obtained a license to use the brand for commercial purposes.

The project is the idea of 24-year-old entrepreneur Saad Kassis-Mohamed. In spring 2025 Forbes included him among the most influential young people in the “Social Impact in Africa” category. He wants to enter Formula 1 with his investment company SKM Capital and plans to invest about €280 million in the SKM Racing project over the first three years.

The company has already leased a technical center in Silverstone and plans to apply to the FIA by early 2026. The first chassis is expected to be ready by the third quarter, and in 2027 the team should be able to take the start.

Marsin Graham, managing partner of SKM Capital: “Formula 1 is an engineering competition held under constrained spending, making it very attractive for investment. We are in active talks with two power unit manufacturers about multi-year supplies and technological cooperation. We need reliable engines, appropriate technology and strict corporate governance. If everything is done properly, the results will come.”
