Formula 1 fights counterfeits in Las Vegas
Formula 1 always strictly enforces its copyrights, selling them to broadcasters and merchandise retailers, monitoring and heavily fining "pirates." It was especially galling to FOM officials to see such products in Las Vegas, where Formula 1 itself is the event organizer and is counting on maximum profit.
According to FOX5 Las Vegas, FOM management has filed suit against two companies that were selling counterfeit products bearing Formula 1 branding. Police seized 69 items, including T‑shirts, caps and other merchandise. According to the indictment, the entrepreneurs purchased thousands of counterfeit goods for resale.
FOM accuses the companies of "intentional misleading, deception and improper conduct" toward fans, and is seeking damages of one million US dollars, including legal costs. In addition, all counterfeit goods are to be destroyed.
