Alex Albon: There is cause for concern

Williams has been on the rise lately: whereas last year after 14 races of the season it had only 4 points and the team was bottom of the Constructors' Championship, it is now in fifth place with 70 points. Most of those were earned by Alex Albon, but he admits that next year, when Formula 1 switches to next‑generation machinery, the team's progress may slow.

"There is reason for such concerns," the Williams driver admitted in an interview with RacingNews365. "Mercedes can be seen as a clear example: that team dominated when the championship featured previous‑generation cars, and then that successful period ended. But I think the top teams will be able to find a way. They manage to get everyone working in harmony, and they know how to adapt to keep fighting for high positions. You can still remember where our team was three years ago, and if you had asked me then what would happen if Williams couldn't move up to a higher level, I would have said that is indeed a relevant question.

And although we have not yet achieved our goals, our situation can already be considered much healthier. Even if next year we cannot reach the level we want to be at, I still feel we have laid a good foundation to keep clawing our way back. We still want to achieve further improvements and we are achieving them. There is a real buzz at the Williams base in Grove, and as long as I believe in this project, I am happy to be part of it. On the one hand, I don't want to wait too long for improvements; on the other, I am prepared to wait."
