Rubens Barrichello won the Brazilian NASCAR series.
Even at 53, Rubens Barrichello still retains his fighting spirit and continues to achieve new successes. This weekend he became champion of the Brazilian NASCAR series on his first attempt, securing his fourth win of the season after the round held at the Autodromo Velo Citta, which is 180 km from São Paulo.
The racing veteran competes for the Full Time Sports team and pilots a racing Ford Mustang — today his task may have been made easier by technical problems that arose on the car of Thiago Camilo, his teammate and main rival.
"I'm sorry for Thiago, but there was nothing I could do," Rubens commented after the finish. "I had already started to attack him on the outside when I saw his engine giving up, and I crossed his line. Off the track we're friends, but when we lower the visors on our helmets we fight for our ideals... In the end the car performed very well, I won and I'm very happy!"
Barrichello competed in Formula 1 from 1993 to 2011, contested 323 Grands Prix, winning 11 races, and when he was Michael Schumacher's teammate at Ferrari he finished runner-up in the world championship twice, in 2002 and 2004. He then continued his career in IndyCar and in endurance racing, and among other achievements became champion of the Brazilian Stock Car Pro series in 2014 and 2022.
