Wolff: Every failure will be a lesson for Kimi.
The rough patch in the career of Mercedes debutant Kimi Antonelli has dragged on. Many believe he is not yet ready to compete at that level, that the young Italian driver should have been given more time, but team principal Toto Wolff believes everything is proceeding as it should.
Toto Wolff: "Because of a mistake in the first practice, Kimi was a step behind the others all weekend, which affected his preparation. Unfortunately, the race ended for him with a crash that caused Charles Leclerc to retire. He apologized. A debut season inevitably consists of ups and downs. Of course, we want more successes, but each failure will be a lesson for him going forward. Right now we are not fighting in the Constructors' Championship. Second or third place is not as important as fighting for victory in 2026, when it will be important to consistently score points. Any diamond needs cutting before it can shine in all its beauty, and we have no doubt that this will ultimately happen."
