Hadjar "cannot refuse" a seat with Red Bull - Panis
"I sense a refreshing quality in this young man."
Olivier Panis believes that Isack Hadjar's impressive podium finish at Zandvoort showcases the rookie's potential to thrive alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull. "What I appreciate most is his dedication," the former F1 champion and fellow Frenchman shared with RMC Sport. "He’s fearless, he doesn’t back down, and he gives it his all. He shows remarkable maturity for someone his age. Honestly, it’s quite remarkable," Panis remarked. Hadjar made history as the youngest Frenchman to ever secure a spot on an F1 podium at Zandvoort, sparking speculation that he is likely to replace Yuki Tsunoda next year.
"I find a sense of freshness in this young man," Panis continued. "He speaks his mind and is very candid. Many others play it too safe, using only political language – that’s never been my style. Isack is the newcomer who is achieving impressive results." Nevertheless, Panis acknowledges that vying for the Red Bull seat alongside Max Verstappen can be intimidating for aspiring drivers. "Is it a tricky position? Yes and no," he explained. "Max is an extraordinary talent who customizes the car for himself. It’s a tough decision, but how can one refuse an opportunity with a top team?
"If there's a risk to take, it should be taken now. With the new car next year, everything will be reassessed. What does he have to lose? Max was just 18 when he secured his place. Isack has demonstrated his speed, dedication, and tyre management, along with his strong character. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t succeed." The 1996 Monaco GP winner even drew a comparison between Hadjar and today’s top young talents. "He’s similar to Piastri – a person of few words who focuses on his work and wins races. Isack is part of this new generation, like Norris – very well-rounded individuals. He possesses the talent to compete with the best."
Meanwhile, Spanish media are reporting that Hadjar will be awarded a new trophy after he inadvertently broke his first one during the post-race celebrations. "Alongside the Dutch GP, we obviously want the third-place finisher to receive the trophy they rightfully earned," stated Royal Delft, the manufacturer of the porcelain awards. "We will create a new trophy for Hadjar. The broken trophy will remain with him as a keepsake of this memorable moment."
