Colton Herta: I know I'm taking risks, but I believe in myself.

After signing a contract with Cadillac F1 in early September, American Colton Herta is trying to realize his dream of Formula 1 — a dream he had tried to give up several times, but ultimately decided to risk his career for...

Colton Herta: "Everyone knows I've been close to making the switch several times, but the arrival of the Cadillac team is my best chance to get into Formula 1. A kind of 'lifeline.'

I understand that I'm taking a risk. Making the decision was incredibly difficult, because I'm leaving a great team, an incredibly competitive championship where on a good day you can win a race. In Formula 1 that's far from always the case; to perform at a high level you need a truly competitive car.

The easiest thing would have been to stay in IndyCar. My life would have stayed the same. But I have a dream, a last chance to make it happen, and I want to seize it, I want to take the risk.

I understand that I have no guarantees. A driver can only ever rely on himself. And I believe in myself, I believe I'm fast enough. And I know it simply won't be easy. It will take a lot of work to understand the difference between a Grand Prix and IndyCar races, but I'll focus on that as much as possible. If I hadn't been confident I could do it, I would have stayed in IndyCar. But I believe in myself."
