Steiner reemerges as the owner of a new MotoGP team.
"Tech3 is an excellent team with significant potential."
Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has officially reentered competitive motorsport, but this time outside of Formula 1. MotoGP has announced that Steiner and his business partner Richard Coleman will take full ownership of the established Tech3 team, including its Moto3 division, starting in 2026. Steiner, who is 60 years old, will serve as CEO, while Coleman will be the team principal. Founder Herve Poncharal will continue to lead the team for the remainder of the current season before transitioning to a consultancy position. Tech3 will keep racing with KTM bikes from their headquarters in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France.
"This is a wonderful opportunity," Steiner remarked at the Catalan GP. "Tech3 is a fantastic team with immense potential and a remarkable legacy. We’re thrilled to join the MotoGP paddock and unlock the team's potential while promoting the sport as it evolves, reaching new audiences."
Steiner is widely recognized as the outspoken former principal of the Haas F1 team, whose character contributed to the success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive. His entry into MotoGP follows closely after Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, also acquired MotoGP promoter Dorna.
For Poncharal, who established Tech3 in 1990 and took the team to the premier class in 2001, this signifies the conclusion of a significant chapter. "When Guenther expressed interest in the team, it felt like the right time for this transition," he stated. "Tech3 will be in capable hands."
MotoGP sporting chief Carlos Ezpeleta praised Steiner’s entry, indicating that this development comes at an "ideal moment" for the series as it aims to enhance its global expansion.
