James Vowles: The car has good race pace.
At qualifying in Monza Williams' drivers failed to make the final, but they hope to make up for it in the race…
James Vowles, team principal: "It's nice to see our sport in great shape — in the second part of qualifying 15 cars were split by less than four tenths of a second.
In the first part we showed we could get effective tyre performance, but we are still behind the others. Then we ran into some issues with that, but importantly the car's pace was enough to get into the final.
Ahead of us is a race that we'll approach with full commitment. We have nothing to lose. On Friday we saw the car has good race pace — we need to make the most of it and score a few points."
Carlos Sainz (13th): "We expected qualifying to be tougher. All season we've been trying to get more out of the car over a fast lap on the Soft tyres, which have a narrow operating window — each successive lap is different from the previous one. But I believe in our race pace and I'll do everything to score points. Let's race!"
Alex Albon (14th): "The same problem came up again — how to get the tyres to work? We've tried absolutely everything this weekend. We have a good car, as you can see in free practice when we can do more laps to heat and cool the tyres, but in qualifying, when it matters, problems arise. Carlos showed in the first session what we are really capable of and what positions we should be in.
You'd think it's easy to overtake on this track, but it's not — tomorrow we'll see another DRS train. We're starting not where we'd like to be, but we'll see what we can do."
