Lando Norris: I'm pleased, but there were a lot of mistakes.
Contrary to expectations, neither of the McLaren drivers managed to claim pole at Monza, but Lando Norris, who set the second-fastest time, was only 0.077 seconds behind Max Verstappen, and the speed of the four-time world champion did not surprise him at all.
Lando Norris (2nd): "All weekend Max has been quick, and with Max that's never a surprise. The session was very tense for me, the situation kept swinging one way and the other, at different points in qualifying I made mistakes, and there were too many errors.
On the last run I managed to pull everything together, and I'm pleased to have set the second-fastest time. I always judge my result based on how I drove that day, and today it feels like I didn't do the best job, but I'm still happy. There were positives, but there were also negatives.
You can't call P2 a bad result. That said, of course I'd like to be ahead of everyone. But tomorrow I start second and I'm already looking forward to the race. Usually our Sunday pace is one of our strengths, but I have no doubt it will be tough to get past Max.
I don't expect any miracles, and Ferrari are starting behind us — they'll also want to get forward as quickly as possible, I'm sure."
Oscar Piastri (3rd): "There weren't any major issues, just the first corner was so-so for me, although I felt I drove the rest of the lap fairly cleanly.
It felt like the session was going pretty well — I gradually improved, found the right rhythm, but I think the gaps this weekend are incredibly tight. It seems Max and Red Bull are very quick this weekend, although to be honest many other teams are quick too, so I can't say we were comfortable.
The result wasn't a big surprise, although of course we'd have liked to be higher up."
