Marko is angry after Tsunoda and Lawson crash at Monza.

Yuki Tsunoda’s prospects with Red Bull seem increasingly dim following a dismal weekend in Monza that concluded with a collision involving his teammate Liam Lawson.

Tsunoda acknowledged that the gap to the dominant winner Max Verstappen on Sunday was amplified by the fact that only Verstappen was equipped with Red Bull’s new floor. Nevertheless, analysts were not impressed. Timo Glock remarked to Sky Deutschland, "His teammate nearly lapped him. He really should have finished in the points with this car, but he didn't. Red Bull has no justification for retaining him."

Red Bull's plans for 2026 appear to be focusing on Isack Hadjar, who has excelled with Racing Bulls, securing a first podium, while Lawson has made headlines for his clumsy aggressive moves and criticism from competitors like Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. Lando Norris was even overheard saying, "What was he doing?" in the cool-down room as a replay of Lawson’s recent incident was shown.

Lawson himself has admitted that he no longer entertains thoughts of returning to Red Bull Racing, instead aiming to "secure a seat" elsewhere for 2026. The incident Norris referred to before the podium on Sunday was the collision between Lawson and Tsunoda, which drew strong criticism from Dr. Helmut Marko. The 82-year-old expressed his anger, stating, "The collision with Lawson from our own team was incredibly foolish. That seems to have inflicted even more damage to the car."

Red Bull is not expected to finalize its lineup for 2026 until October, but Tsunoda’s chances now seem almost nonexistent. "Where's the risk?" Glock questioned when discussing the potential for a driver change. "You could replace him, but the more pertinent question is - what driver would want that?"
