Max Verstappen named the strongest drivers of 2025.
The Spanish edition Mundo Deportivo asked Max Verstappen to name the strongest drivers competing in Formula 1 in 2025. He did not name himself, nor seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Answering the question of whom he considers the best qualifying driver, Max said: “Oh, a tough question, but, in my view at the moment... I’ve always considered Charles Leclerc a very good qualifying driver. And Charles is also good at overtaking.”
But the highest praise went to Fernando Alonso, whom Max called the best in four categories, including the best at fighting in races: “I’ve always enjoyed watching Fernando fight in races. He’s a real fighter, and I like that.
The smartest driver? I would always choose experience. I won’t name myself in that category, and I’ll again pick Fernando for his experience. In addition, Alonso just defends brilliantly, and there’s no doubt he has the most stable mentality.”
Max refused to name the most charismatic driver on the grid: “Charisma actually doesn’t matter. At least, not for driving a Formula 1 car.”
Verstappen also refrained from naming the greatest driver of all time: “I think it’s impossible to pick just one, because in different eras many great drivers have competed in the championship. In my view, it’s far more important to appreciate all the great drivers who have raced in Formula 1.”
