Sergio Perez has announced that Cadillac will soon commence its on-track Formula 1 preparations utilizing a Ferrari chassis. Speaking at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, the 35-year-old disclosed that following simulator work in Charlotte, he will head to England next week to drive a Formula 1 car. "Next week, I’ll first be in Charlotte and then in England," stated Perez. "I’ll test the simulator, but after that, I aim to drive an F1 car." The Mexican driver acknowledged that he requires mileage to rebuild his strength in anticipation of Cadillac’s 2026 debut. "I need to start preparing to be ready early next year, as I’ve lost tone in my neck and need to regain full functionality to drive an F1 car optimally," he explained. While not officially confirmed, it is widely believed the car will be a 2023 Ferrari, provided to the American team under its customer engine supply agreement with Maranello. Perez, who lost his seat at Red Bull at the end of 2024, is looking forward to the new challenge. "I want to return and enjoy it because the last few years have been tough," he expressed. "I want to get back to a Formula 1 that I find enjoyable and collaborate with a team that shares my enthusiasm." Meanwhile, paddock speculation indicates that fellow Cadillac recruit Valtteri Bottas has been prevented by Mercedes from participating in any Ferrari-based testing this year.
