Mick Schumacher will take part in IndyCar testing for the first time.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), which competes in the American IndyCar series, announced today that Mick Schumacher will pilot its car in tests to be held on October 13 at the Indianapolis road course.

This is a road circuit that hosted the United States Grand Prix from 2000 to 2007, and Michael Schumacher, Mick’s father, won it five times. However, the 2005 victory has a separate story, but that’s not the point now.

“I’m really looking forward to my first IndyCar tests,” Mick commented. “I’m grateful to the RLL team for giving me this opportunity. It will be my first time driving this kind of car at the Indianapolis road course, a circuit with such a rich history where my father once raced.

I’m very curious to learn the specifics of this car, to understand its characteristics, since it differs from the race machinery I’m used to, even though it is similar. I’m still keen to gain experience across different areas of the motorsport world.

It’s great that I’ll be able to get to know such a car, to feel how difficult it is to drive, as I’ve heard a lot that it is quite physically demanding. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of single-seater racing, and my first IndyCar tests will be a very valuable experience.”

Over the past two years Mick has been driving the A424 hypercar in the World Endurance Championship for the Alpine team and has stood on the podium four times. This coming weekend he, together with his co-drivers in car No. 36, will take part in the 6 Hours of Fuji.

At the October tests in Indianapolis he will get acquainted with the Dallara IR-12 equipped with a Honda hybrid power unit based on a 2.2-liter twin-turbo V6. According to IndyCar’s official website, it is possible this is being done with a view to a potential future move by Schumacher to the American series.

The new IndyCar season will start on March 1, 2026, with the round in St. Petersburg.
