Mick Schumacher states that his forthcoming Indycar test is aimed at reigniting his genuine love for single-seater racing, as he continues to miss out on Formula 1 opportunities. The 26-year-old ex-Haas driver will pilot a Rahal Letterman Lanigan car in Indianapolis on October 13, having been passed over for a Cadillac F1 seat for the 2026 season.

Speaking at the WEC event in Fuji, Schumacher acknowledged that his experience with sports cars was only meant to be temporary. "I always wanted to drive formula cars," he shared with formel1.de. "Sports cars were enjoyable, but my real passion lies with single-seaters."

"I'm looking forward to getting back into it."

Until now, Schumacher had been hesitant about pursuing racing in the US as he clung to his F1 aspirations. However, seeing another F1 opportunity slip away, he now considers Indycar as "a fantastic option." "Indycar features excellent drivers, and the races are quite exciting—with numerous duels," he remarked. "Additionally, there are many drivers I’ve competed against in the junior series, which will be interesting."

For the moment, he is concentrating solely on the testing phase. "I want to explore different categories. I believe it will be very different from the WEC Hypercar class but also distinct from Formula 1," explained the son of F1 icon Michael Schumacher.

      "I’m still quite young."

Currently racing for Alpine in the WEC, Schumacher’s race at Fuji concluded in disappointment with a distant second place, while his teammates achieved a historic victory.
