George Russell: Not our best Friday by far
In the second practice on the Singapore circuit George Russell managed to complete only six laps and on the last of them he crashed the car while entering the sequence of turns 16 and 17. Although from the outside it seemed that only the nose cone and a punctured front-left tyre on his Mercedes were damaged, the session was over for him. As it turned out later, some suspension components were also damaged.
George Russell (20th): "It was a strange crash, to be honest. I can't say exactly what happened, but I braked a little earlier and was entering that corner a bit more slowly, yet I lost control of the rear of the car. It's good that I hit the barrier nose-first, and the damage isn't that serious, but that ended the session for me. It's all unpleasant and I apologise to the team, but it's better this crash happened today than tomorrow. Overall I can say that we had difficulties in the first practice, but on the opening laps of the second session I already felt much more comfortable in the car, and it seems the pace was much better too. At least that's the impression from the laps I completed normally. This is far from our best Friday, but the condition of the Singapore circuit is constantly changing and there's literally rain in the air, so I'm not too worried."
Kimi Antonelli (18th): "The session result doesn't reflect how our day went or what we could have achieved. In the second session I had to cut short my first attempt on the soft tyre because red flags came out. At that time I was already in the final sector of a lap that should have been pretty good, and we should have moved up higher in the order. That's encouraging, and I hope our pace in the remaining sessions will be no worse. The car left a good impression. We still have things to work on, but of course, since this is my first time at the Singapore circuit, I still need to improve a lot in terms of driving. If we can make progress with the setup work, and I drive better, I think tomorrow we'll have the chance to fight for good starting positions. The track is fun and interesting, I felt comfortable in the car straight away, and I'll keep preparing for what's coming tomorrow and on Sunday."
