Isola: Overtaking has become really difficult.
Pirelli are pleased with the performance of the tyres in Singapore, but regret that spectators saw almost no overtaking…
Mario Isola, Pirelli’s motorsport director: “First of all, I congratulate George Russell on his victory in the race, and the McLaren team on the Constructors’ Championship!
We have once again seen that the current generation of cars has reached such a high level of development that overtaking has become a truly difficult task, especially on a circuit like Singapore. In addition, teams and drivers have become even more adept at tyre management – we saw stints of 50 laps on the Medium and 38 laps on the Soft. Even if we had brought the theoretical C8 compound here, it wouldn’t have had much impact on the course of the race!
Tonight, as expected, all three compounds were competitive. At the start the Soft was an interesting choice, partly because of the rain that fell before the start. The Medium tyres provided the best balance between speed and stability, but the Hard tyres also produced good results.”
