Tsunoda's position weakens as Red Bull's prospects diminish.

"That was one of the worst opening laps of my life."

Yuki Tsunoda’s future with Red Bull appears increasingly uncertain following a dismal weekend in Singapore, where the Japanese driver finished outside the points and was lapped by his teammate. Tsunoda, who had shown some improvement since Monza, fell to P12 after qualifying outside the top 10, admitting it was a nightmare start. "That was one of the worst opening laps of my life," he shared with Viaplay on Sunday. "It's a real shame because in terms of speed, this was one of my best races during my Red Bull career. It’s truly disappointing."

Former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde expressed disbelief at Tsunoda's performance. "Ouch! What a painful interview," he said on Viaplay. "He seems completely lost. First, he was lapped by his teammate. Second, while he claims his pace was good and that he was fast, he was actually very slow. Lastly, that opening lap was a catastrophe as well."

Red Bull simulator driver Rudy van Buren concurred that the situation is troubling. "Things aren’t heading in the right direction," he noted. "The results need to improve, and they aren’t."

Van der Garde added that Tsunoda's challenges are now both psychological and technical. "You can see it in his interview," he remarked. "He doesn’t know what to say or where to look. He’s completely lost. He has no one to blame but himself; he can only look in the mirror and acknowledge he’s not good enough."

The 25-year-old, who has strong backing from Honda, is now viewed as a candidate for a reserve role at Aston Martin when the Japanese manufacturer joins the team in 2026.
