Jean Alesi is auctioning the Ferrari F92A.

Jean Alesi has decided to part with a car that means a lot to him: he raced the Ferrari F92A in the 1992 World Championship. After that season ended the team presented him the car as a gift (chassis no. 136), but in January next year it will go under the hammer at an auction in Paris organized by the French firm Artcurial Motorcars.

The car has already undergone a full restoration by Ferrari’s historical division, after which Alesi drove a couple of demonstration laps around the factory test track at Fiorano, and now the F92A has returned to his villa near Avignon, where it has been kept all these years.

It is fitted with the original 3.5-liter V12 engine producing up to 750 hp. All mechanical and electronic components are original as well.

“This Ferrari 92A is part of my life; it is a symbol of my passionate love for Ferrari and also a symbol of that era when achieving high speeds was everything,” commented Jean, who raced in Formula 1 from 1989 to 2001 and is now president of the Paul Ricard circuit. “I hope the car finds a true enthusiast and returns to the racetrack. In any case Paul Ricard will always be open to it, which means I’ll be able to see it in action again!”

However, it should be noted that despite its impressive looks and an incredibly loud 12‑cylinder engine, this car was one of Ferrari’s least successful designs of the period and proved uncompetitive.

Alesi and his teammate Ivan Capelli could not keep up with rivals in Williams, McLaren and Benetton, so they scored only 21 points that season. The Scuderia finished only fourth in the Constructors’ Championship that year. Still, Jean did make the podium a couple of times — in Barcelona and Montreal.
