Carlos Sainz: Today luck was on our side.
Carlos Sainz’s third place in the US Grand Prix sprint is Williams’ best result in Saturday sprints. After the finish the Spanish driver admitted that luck was on his side today – the collision at the first corner between the McLaren drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Fernando Alonso, helped him move up from seventh to third.
Carlos Sainz: “We drove the sprint confidently. The Ferrari drivers behind me were faster, but I had everything under control, and I finished third. A nice result.
For us nothing has changed compared to yesterday. Today luck was on our side, but nothing more happened.
I’ve had this pace throughout the year. In the first half of the season I wasn’t able to prove it, but now everything is coming together more smoothly, and everything I do is working out.”
