Colapinto poised for Alpine revival during challenging season.

A significant demonstration of confidence following months of uncertainty

Franco Colapinto is reportedly set to remain with Alpine for 2026, as stated by Spanish broadcaster DAZN, which anticipates that an announcement regarding the Argentine's new contract will be made between the Mexican and Brazilian grands prix. This development comes on the heels of Alpine revealing eye-catching yellow accents on its special livery debut in Austin, showcasing Colapinto's principal sponsor Mercado Libre, the Argentine e-commerce powerhouse whose colors will feature across the upcoming three Formula 1 events in the Americas.

For the 22-year-old rookie, this retention marks an essential expression of trust after extended periods of doubt regarding his future. However, this positive news arrives amid a challenging sporting environment, with Alpine currently positioned at the bottom of the constructors' standings in 2025 and facing competitiveness challenges. Pierre Gasly, who recently secured his own contract extension with the Enstone team through 2028, acknowledged the team's struggles during an interview with Belgium's RTBF in Austin.

"We are aware of and understand the reasons behind the issues we are encountering this year," the Frenchman stated. "At the beginning of the season, we made a strategic choice to shift our focus early on to 2026. We halted the development of this car, and with how competitive the grid is—20 cars within eight-tenths of a second—we are experiencing some repercussions from this decision, but it should give us an edge for next year."

Gasly affirmed that his long-term commitment came only after receiving "certain guarantees" from management. "This wasn’t a quick decision," he remarked. "I required certain assurances from the team, and they were able to fulfill them. There are many reasons to feel optimistic."

The 29-year-old emphasized the significance of Alpine's early shift towards the 2026 regulations, even at the expense of current performance. "I backed the team's decision, fully aware it would complicate the season, even if it has turned out to be a bit more challenging than we anticipated," Gasly stated. "However, I am completely convinced that this will place us in a much stronger position for 2026. I have total faith in the team. There are always areas for improvement, but a real momentum is developing."
