Oscar Piastri: My approach hasn't changed

At the FIA press conference in Mexico, Oscar Piastri said that after everything that happened in Austin, McLaren intend to start the final part of the season with a clean slate. He also admitted that some of the responsibility for the incident at the start of the sprint last Saturday lies with him.

Oscar Piastri: "We have analyzed everything again, because we do that after every weekend regardless of what happened. In what happened in the sprint, a certain responsibility lies with me as well, and this weekend we are starting everything from a clean slate.

To be honest, my approach doesn't change. Of course, everyone knows that the lead in the championship was large and has now narrowed somewhat, but I always focus on showing the maximum possible pace each weekend and achieving the highest possible results.

Sometimes we manage it, sometimes we don't. But if I do my job well enough each weekend and win races, it doesn't really matter how the rest of the picture develops.

Do I prefer to be the one being chased or to be the chaser myself? There are pros and cons in both cases. Everyone likes good stories about how someone who had no chance achieves success, and sometimes being the chaser is even easier, but I prefer to remain the championship leader rather than occupy any other position.

It's hard to say yet what results we'll show in Mexico. I suppose our predictions about which tracks we should perform well at and where the advantage will be with our rivals don't always come true. Undoubtedly, over the last few weekends Red Bull and Max Verstappen have achieved consistency. Signs of this were present before, but we expect that this weekend they will become a serious threat."
