Häkkinen hopes that harmony at McLaren will continue.

The closer the season finale gets, the tenser things will become within the McLaren team, and Mika Häkkinen, the two-time world champion, even called the situation "horrible."

After the recent Mexican Grand Prix, Lando Norris, the race winner, became the leader of the drivers' standings, but his advantage over Oscar Piastri is only one championship point. The Australian's form has not been the best lately, and Max Verstappen, who sits third in the championship, has already begun to close in on the McLaren drivers, cutting his deficit to Norris to 36 points.

"Zak Brown and Andrea Stella have achieved incredible results, but they will have to make a very serious effort working with their drivers to find some harmony in the team and maintain it until the end of the season," Häkkinen said while appearing on the High Performance podcast.

The Finn won his two titles with McLaren, and now, with the team once again dominating Formula 1, there is a strong chance that one of its drivers will become world champion. Mika is worried that whoever loses will inevitably experience intense disappointment.

"It's racing, and only one of them can win the championship," Häkkinen continued. "It's a nightmarish, absolutely terrible situation that affects the atmosphere within the team. I'm not saying this in a negative way, I'm just calling things as they are.

McLaren has excellent business partners, and the team employs outstanding specialists — engineers, mechanics, designers. It's a fantastic team, and you want them to have a perfect remainder of the championship.

I think Lando is already a fairly experienced professional and knows what Formula 1 is all about. Oscar is gradually reaching that level, so I believe McLaren will be able to find ways to ensure the end of the season goes well."
