Penalty points after the São Paulo Grand Prix
The FIA uses a system of penalty points on the superlicence to reduce the number of infractions. Each infraction is punished with a certain number of points; their total over 12 months must not exceed twelve — otherwise the driver is suspended for one race, as happened in 2024 to Kevin Magnussen. Penalty points expire 12 months after they are awarded.
Next time penalty points will expire is December 1 — this includes one point for Verstappen, two points for Albon and Lawson, and three points for Norris, received during last year’s Qatar Grand Prix.
After the São Paulo Grand Prix, fifteen active drivers have unexpired penalty points. The leader in their number is Oliver Bearman.
