Zak Brown: Who would have thought I'd write a book?

In July we reported on Zak Brown’s forthcoming debut in memoir writing: the CEO of McLaren Racing has written a book he titled "Seven-Tenths of a Second." Naturally, this 288-page autobiographical work is, above all, about the CEO of McLaren Racing’s sincere and undivided love of motorsport.

The book will hit the shelves of British shops on November 20, but Brown has already received his author copies and is preparing to meet future readers, the vast majority of whom — there is no doubt — will be McLaren fans.

"Here’s my book," he commented, sharing a video on social media that captured the moment he unpacked a package received from the publisher. "The books look great, I like them. The book is called 'Seven-Tenths of a Second' — that’s how much, a year ago, we could have lost by in Abu Dhabi (where McLaren secured the Constructors’ Championship), and it shows that even after a whole season of incredible effort, everything can depend on a matter of moments.

"But that’s our life. Anyway, there’s a lot of interesting stuff in the book. I’m leafing through it for the first time now — who would have thought I’d write a book? My schoolteachers certainly wouldn’t have — actually no one who knows me would.

"Because if you open the book to page 89 and see my school report, the grades aren’t good. The book has all sorts of amusing stories and great photos, and many people helped me write it, for which I’m very grateful to everyone.

"And now I’m preparing for reader events where this book will be the subject of conversation, because it tells stories about people you know. Mind you, you may not know some of them. Some of them are my wonderful friends, with some I don’t have such good relationships, and when they read this book… (he grins slyly)

"I’m still keen to see the reactions of different people. I hope you enjoy the book!"

Zak Brown chose the perfect moment to present his autobiography: McLaren has already secured a second consecutive Constructors’ Championship, and both of the team’s drivers are fighting for the drivers’ title, and it is highly likely that with each of the three remaining rounds of the season the intensity of that rivalry will increase.

So there will be interest in the book, especially since everyone who places a pre-order is promised a substantial discount, and many fans will no doubt be giving the brightly covered edition to each other for Christmas. This is one of those cases where you can confidently say that orange is the colour of the season.
