Ella Hakkinen has been included in McLaren's junior programme.
McLaren Racing continues to steadily support talented female drivers, and the women's F1 Academy will feature a second car in the British team's colours. In this connection its junior programme has been bolstered by two more female drivers, including Ella Hakkinen.
We have reported that Ella, who will turn 15 at the end of November, is seriously passionate about karting and has already achieved her first international successes, and now the next important stage of her career is beginning.
Also added to McLaren's programme is Ella Stevens, the British KZ2 karting vice‑champion; she and Ella Hakkinen, the daughter of the two‑time world champion, will join Ella Lloyd, who is already competing in the F1 Academy.
According to a McLaren Racing press release, a test programme has been developed for Ella Hakkinen under which she will learn to drive single‑seaters with the aim of debuting in one of the junior formulae in 2027. And 19‑year‑old Ella Stevens will, as early as next season, drive the second McLaren Racing‑liveried car in the F1 Academy – Rodin Motorsport will run both cars for the British team.
Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Racing: "I acknowledge that there is still much to do to increase female representation in motorsport, but I am very proud of the progress we have made in this area.
I hope all talented karters, drivers and women in other roles — engineers, mechanics and marketers — will heed these signals, because our sport is now open to everyone. We are truly committed to fostering the trends we have seen in recent years.
There are growing career opportunities both on and off the track, and I want to thank our commercial partners who help us open them up for women. We now have three talented female drivers in our junior programme, and that is great news, so I am eager to see them on track."
