Carlos Sainz and Mercedes were not penalized.
The stewards reviewed a possible breach by Carlos Sainz in the first part of qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, when, returning to the track, he could have impeded Lance Stroll.
Aston Martin representatives confirmed at the stewards’ hearing that the Williams driver did not impede Stroll, and Lance did not have to take any action to avoid contact with Sainz’s car. The stewards took into account poor visibility on the track and the presence of yellow flags, and decided not to penalize Carlos Sainz.
There was also no penalty for Mercedes. The team did not submit the setup files for George Russell’s and Kimi Antonelli’s cars to the FIA on time, but at the stewards’ hearing Mercedes representatives demonstrated that the email with the setups had been sent on time; however the FIA did not receive the message due to IT security issues. There was no breach by the team.
